New baby bank initiative is launched by local parents

An exciting new charity has been launched this weekend by local parents. Little Village aims to provide good- quality, used, baby and pre-school clothes and equipment to families in the Tooting area who need a little help.

Inspired by the work of similar local charities in the UK and abroad, Little Village helps with the expense of family life, while also providing a sustainable option for local mums and dads to pass on kit that they no longer need. It makes it easy for local families to support one another.

The charity accepts referrals from local agencies such as health workers and other charities to identify families who could do with some help. Anyone seeking to access Little Village’s services should speak to their health visitor, Children’s Centre or social worker who will be able to contact the charity on their behalf.

Little Village is currently in the process of establishing collection points and events at local schools and nurseries. The next of these will be at the Balham Scout Centre on Wednesday 3 Feb, 9.30–11am.

To find out what items can be donated, you can visit the Little Village Facebook page, website (www.littlevillagehq.com) or follow them on Twitter: @littlevillagehq. Unfortunately, due to understandable health and safety rules there are some items that can’t be accepted – such as car seats.

As a local Councillor, I am delighted to have supported the charity in securing start up funding from Wandsworth Council’s Grant Fund. Hopefully this will enable this fantastic initiative to go from strength to strength.
